Damp phlegm leg qì

湿痰脚气 〔濕痰腳氣〕shī tán jiǎo qì

Leg qì (beriberi) attributed to exuberant dampness pouring downward and engendering phlegm. In addition to the principal signs of leg qì (e.g., lack of strength in the legs), damp phlegm leg qì is characterized by efflux diarrhea.

Medicinal therapy: Treat with medicinals such as atractylodes (Atractylodis Rhizoma, 苍朮 cāng zhú), saposhnikovia (Saposhnikoviae Radix, 防风 fáng fēng), areca (Arecae Semen, 槟榔 bīng láng), cyperus (Cyperi Rhizoma, 香附子 xiāng fù zǐ), chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma, 川芎 chuān xiōng), scutellaria (Scutellariae Radix, 黄芩 huáng qín), talcum (Talcum, 滑石 huá shí), and licorice (Glycyrrhizae Radix, 甘草 gān cǎo).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on SP, ST, and GB. Select ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), SP-9 (Yīn Mound Spring, 阴陵泉 yīn líng quán), SP-5 (Shang Hill, 商丘 shāng qiū), CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū), ST-40 (Bountiful Bulge, 丰隆 fēng lóng), GB-34 (Yáng Mound Spring, 阳陵泉 yáng líng quán), GB-39 (Suspended Bell, 悬钟 xuán zhōng), ST-41 (Ravine Divide, 解溪 jiě xī), and Eight Winds (八风 bā fēng). Needle with drainage.
