Clearing heat and freeing strangury

清热通淋 〔清熱通淋〕 qīng rè tōng lín

A method of treatment used to address painful, burning sensations in the urethra, urinary urgency, frequent urination, and reddish urine.

Medicinal therapy: Heat-clearing strangury-freeing medicinals include trifoliate akebia (Akebiae Trifoliatae Caulis, 木通 mù tōng), plantago seed (Plantaginis Semen, 车前子 chē qián zǐ) or plantago (Plantaginis Herba, 车前 chē qián), knotgrass (Polygoni Avicularis Herba, 萹蓄 biǎn xù), pyrrosia (Pyrrosiae Folium, 石韦 shí wéi), dianthus (Dianthi Herba, 瞿麦 qū mài), and talcum (Talcum, 滑石 huá shí). These may be combined with heat-clearing medicinals such as andrographis (Andrographis Herba, 穿心莲 chuān xīn lián), dandelion (Taraxaci Herba, 蒲公英 pú gōng yīng), dayflower (Commelinae Herba, 鸭跖草 yā zhí cǎo), houttuynia (Houttuyniae Herba, 鱼腥草 yú xīng cǎo), phoenix-tail fern (Pteridis Multifidi Herba, 凤尾草 fèng wěi cǎo), lonicera (Lonicerae Flos, 金银花 jīn yín huā), and phellodendron (Phellodendri Cortex, 黄柏 huáng bǎi). A representative heat-clearing strangury-freeing formula is Eight Corrections Powder (八正散 bā zhèng sǎn).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on the three yīn channels of the foot and alarm and back transport points of BL (CV-3 and BL-28). Select BL-28 (Bladder Transport, 膀胱俞 páng guāng shù), CV-3 (Central Pole, 中极 zhōng jí), SP-9 (Yīn Mound Spring, 阴陵泉 yīn líng quán), LR-2 (Moving Between, 行间 xíng jiān), KI-3 (Great Ravine, 太溪 tài xī), LR-8 (Spring at the Bend, 曲泉 qū quán), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), and TB-5 (Outer Pass, 外关 wài guān); needle with drainage.
