Wind-heat lumbar pain

风热腰痛 〔風熱腰痛〕fēng rè yāo tòng

Lumbar pain attributed to wind-heat invading the kidney channel. Wind-heat lumbar pain is characterized by acute pain that stretches into the legs and knees, thirst, and a rapid pulse.

Medicinal therapy: Course wind and clear heat with variations of Toxin-Vanquishing Powder (败毒散 bài dú sǎn) or Minor Bupleurum Decoction (小柴胡汤 xiǎo chái hú tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on BL, LU, LI, and GV. Select GB-20 (Wind Pool, 风池 fēng chí), GV-14 (Great Hammer, 大椎 dà zhuī), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), BL-23 (Kidney Transport, 肾俞 shèn shù), BL-40 (Bend Center, 委中 wěi zhōng), BL-54 (Sequential Limit, 秩边 zhì biān), and ouch points (阿是穴 ā shì xué); needle with drainage. Prick LU-11 (Lesser Shang, 少商 shào shāng) to bleed (BL-40 may also be bled).
