Wind flat-abscess

风疽 〔風疽〕 fēng jū

A persistent sore occurring on the lower leg or ankle that is characterized by pain and itching and that exudes yellow fluid when ruptured and is attributed to damp-heat stagnating in the skin or in the blood and blood vessels.

Biomedical correspondence: chronic eczema.

Medicinal therapy: Clear and disinhibit dampness using Wind-Dispersing Powder (消风散 xiāo fēng sǎn) or Mysterious Three Pill (三妙丸 sān miào wán) as oral medication, and applying Indigo Powder (青黛散 qīng dài sǎn) topically.

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on GV, LI, ST, and SP. Needle with drainage at GV-14 (Great Hammer, 大椎 dà zhuī), LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí), SP-9 (Yīn Mound Spring, 阴陵泉 yīn líng quán), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), and with supplementation at BL-17 (Diaphragm Transport, 膈俞 gé shù), SP-10 (Sea of Blood, 血海 xuè hǎi), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), and HT-7 (Spirit Gate, 神门 shén mén). Pricking and cupping may also be used.

Point selection according to signs: For pronounced itching, add HT-8 (Lesser Mansion, 少府 shào fǔ) and Itch Reliever (止痒 zhǐ yǎng). For pronounced dampness, add LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ) and moxa.
