From Plain Questions (素问 sù wèn, wǔ cháng zhèng dà lùn): When the disease in lower body, treat it through the upper body. In acupuncture, this means treating disease of the lower by needling points on the upper body. For example, prolapse of the rectum can be treated by needling GV-20 (Hundred Convergences, 百会 bǎi huì) at the vertex. In medicinal therapy, this means using medicinals that act from the upper body. For example, inhibited urination due to a dry lung that fails to move water manifesting in dry pharynx, vexation and thirst with a desire to drink, shortness of breath and rapid breathing, a thin yellow tongue fur, and a rapid pulse can be treated through the upper burner with Lung-Clearing Drink (清肺饮子 qīng fèi yǐn zǐ).
