Treating the free by freeing

通因通用 〔通因通用〕tōng yìn tōng yòng

From Plain Questions (素问 sù wèn, zhì zhēn yào dà lùn). A method of paradoxical treatment using freeing and disinhibiting agents to treat a disease patterns marked by freeness and disinhibition. For example, if food and drink accumulate and stagnate internally to give rise to glomus and oppression in the chest and stomach duct, distension and pain in the abdomen, no thought of food and drink, and diarrhea, then treatment must be to attack and expel the accumulation and stagnation using Unripe Bitter Orange Stagnation-Abducting Pill (枳实导滞丸 zhǐ shí dǎo zhì wán).
