Supplementing the spleen and boosting qì

补脾益气 〔補脾益氣〕bǔ pí yì qì

Also supplementing the center and boosting qì. A method of treatment used to fortify the spleen to treat qì vacuity. Supplementing the spleen and boosting qì is the basic method for treating qì vacuity, since the spleen and stomach are the root of later heaven (the acquired constitution) and are the source of qì and blood formation.

Medicinal therapy: Commonly used formulas include Four Gentlemen Decoction (四君子汤 sì jūn zǐ tāng) and Center-Supplementing Qì-Boosting Decoction (补中益气汤 bǔ zhōng yì qì tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on back transport points, CV, SP, and ST. Select BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), BL-21 (Stomach Transport, 胃俞 wèi shù), CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), LR-13 (Camphorwood Gate, 章门 zhāng mén), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), SP-3 (Supreme White, 太白 tài bái), and ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ); needle with supplementation and add moxa.
