Fortifying the spleen and boosting qì

健脾益气 〔健脾益氣〕jiàn pí yì qì

Also fortifying the spleen and supplementing qì. A method of treatment used to address qì vacuity and splenic movement and transformation failure, characterized by bright-white facial complexion, faint voice, reduced food intake, sloppy stool, lack of strength in the limbs, and moderate weak or soft fine pulse.

Medicinal therapy: A classic spleen-fortifying qì-boosting formula is Four Gentlemen Decoction (四君子汤 sì jūn zǐ tāng). In this formula, ginseng (Ginseng Radix, 人参 rén shēn) and licorice (Glycyrrhizae Radix, 甘草 gān cǎo) boost qì, whereas white atractylodes (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 白朮 bái zhú), and poria (Poria, 茯苓 fú líng) fortify the spleen. In Spleen-Returning Decoction (归脾汤 guī pí tāng), astragalus (Astragali Radix, 黄芪 huáng qí), and ginseng (Ginseng Radix, 人参 rén shēn) are used to fortify the spleen and boost qì.

Acumoxatherapy: Use the points under fortifying the spleen, and add CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), and SP-3 (Supreme White, 太白 tài bái); needle with supplementation and moxa. Compare supplementing the spleen and boosting qì.
