Static blood cough

瘀血咳 〔瘀血咳〕yū xuè ké

Cough attributable to static blood obstructing the network vessels of the lung. Static blood cough is characterized by cough with a fishy smell in the throat, and ejection of purple black blood. In some cases, there is only one side on which the patient can lie without experience cough and rapid breathing.

Medicinal therapy: Quicken the blood and harmonize the network vessels. Use House of Blood Stasis-Expelling Decoction (血府逐瘀汤 xuè fǔ zhú yū tāng) plus apricot kernel (Armeniacae Semen, 杏仁 xìng rén) or schisandra (Schisandrae Fructus, 五味子 wǔ wèi zǐ). Alternatively, use Chinese Angelica Powder (当归散 dāng guī sǎn).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on LU, back transport points, and SP. Select BL-13 (Lung Transport, 肺俞 fèi shù), LU-5 (Cubit Marsh, 尺泽 chǐ zé), LU-9 (Great Abyss, 太渊 tài yuān), BL-17 (Diaphragm Transport, 膈俞 gé shù), CV-17 (Chest Center, 膻中 shān zhōng), SP-10 (Sea of Blood, 血海 xuè hǎi), and SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo); needle with drainage.
