Panting (labored breathing) attributed to insufficiency of original qì or spleen-lung qì vacuity. Qì vacuity panting is characterized by hasty breathing and discontinuity between breaths, fatigue and lack of strength, low faint voice, and sweating and exacerbation of panting at the slightest exertion.
Medicinal therapy: Supplement qì and calm panting with Four Gentlemen Panting Decoction (喘四君子汤chuǎn sì jūn zǐ tāng). For qì vacuity with cold, use Clove and Evodia Center-Rectifying Decoction (丁萸理中汤dīng yú lǐ zhōng tāng) or Center-Rectifying Decoction (理中汤lǐ zhōng tāng). For severe vacuity, use Pure Ginseng Decoction (独参汤dú shēn tāng).
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on back transport points, LU, CV and SP. Select BL-13 (Lung Transport, 肺俞 fèi shù), Panting Stabilizer (定喘dìng chuǎn), BL-43 (Gāo-Huāng Transport, 膏肓俞 gāo huāng shù), LU-9 (Great Abyss, 太渊 tài yuān), and ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), BL-21 (Stomach Transport, 胃俞 wèi shù), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), and SP-3 (Supreme White, 太白 tài bái); needle with supplementation and add moxa.
