Qì stagnation lumbar pain

气滞腰痛 〔氣滯腰痛〕qì zhì yāo tòng

Lumbar pain arising when either anger, depression, thought or anxiety, or sprains and falls cause qì stagnation in the sinews. Qì stagnation lumbar pain is characterized by pain that stretches into the abdomen and rib-side that seems to wanderand is intermittent.

Medicinal therapy: Move qì and course stagnation with formulas such as Aquilaria Qì-Downbearing Decoction (沉香降气汤 chén xiāng jiàng qì tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on back transport points, BL, CV, LR, and PC. Select BL-23 (Kidney Transport, 肾俞 shèn shù), BL-40 (Bend Center, 委中 wěi zhōng), ouch points (阿是穴 ā shì xué), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), and GB-34 (Yáng Mound Spring, 阳陵泉 yáng líng quán); needle with drainage. For enduring conditions, add ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), and BL-17 (Diaphragm Transport, 膈俞 gé shù); needle with supplementation.
