Postpartum enuresis

产后遗尿 〔產後遺尿〕 chǎn hòu yí niào

Enuresis arising after childbirth from kidney vacuity and insecurity of bladder qì, from qì-blood vacuity, or from damage to the bladder in childbirth.

Medicinal therapy: Boost the kidney and supplement the center with Center-Supplementing Qì-Boosting Decoction (补中益气汤 bǔ zhōng yì qì tāng) combined with Mantis Egg-Case Powder (桑螵蛸散 sāng piāo xiāo sǎn). Damage to the bladder may require surgery.

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on back transport points. Select BL-23 (Kidney Transport, 肾俞 shèn shù), CV-3 (Central Pole, 中极 zhōng jí), BL-28 (Bladder Transport, 膀胱俞 páng guāng shù), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), and BL-22 (Triple Burner Transport, 三焦俞 sān jiāo shù); needle with supplementation and add moxa. To boost the kidney and supplement the center, add CV-4 (Pass Head, 关元 guān yuán), GV-4 (Life Gate, 命门 mìng mén), KI-3 (Great Ravine, 太溪 tài xī), BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), and ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ). If due to damage to the bladder during delivery, add CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi) and BL-39 (Bend Yáng, 委阳 wěi yáng). In China, acupuncture point injection has been used for postpartum enuresis. Points such as CV-3 (Central Pole, 中极 zhōng jí) and SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo) are injected every other day in 10 days courses with 0.2–.5 ml. of 0.5–1.0 procaine.
