Accumulation of phlegm turbidity in the chest and diaphragm characterized by copious thick phlegm that is difficult to expectorate, dizziness, oppression in the chest with dull pain, and a slippery stringlike pulse.
Medicinal therapy: Open the chest and flush phlegm with formulas such as Phlegm-Abducting Decoction (导痰汤dǎo tán tāng) or Bamboo Sap Phlegm-Moving Pill (竹沥运痰丸zhú lì yùn tán wán). When signs are severe, but both body and qì are replete, Drool-Controlling Elixir (控涎丹kòng xián dān) may be used. For phlegm accumulating in the throat, ejection may be considered.
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on CV, ST, and PC. Select CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), CV-17 (Chest Center, 膻中 shān zhōng), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), ST-40 (Bountiful Bulge, 丰隆 fēng lóng), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), CV-22 (Celestial Chimney, 天突 tiān tú), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), and PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān); needle with drainage and add moxa.
Point selection according to signs: For dizziness, add ST-8 (Head Corner, 头维 tóu wéi), and ST-41 (Ravine Divide, 解溪 jiě xī).
