Moistening the lung and transforming phlegm

润肺化痰 〔潤肺化痰〕rùn fèi huà tán

Also moistening dryness and transforming phlegm. A method of treatment used to address externally contracted warm dryness or lung yīn vacuity with vacuity fire scorching, causing phlegm that is difficult to expectorate, with dry throat, pain on swallowing, cough, and red tongue with dry yellow fur.

Medicinal therapy: Lung-moistening phlegm-transforming medicinals include fritillaria (Fritillariae Bulbus, 贝母 bèi mǔ), trichosanthes (Trichosanthis Fructus, 栝楼 guā lóu), adenophora/glehnia (Adenophorae seu Glehniae Radix, 沙参 shā shēn), ophiopogon (Ophiopogonis Radix, 麦门冬 mài mén dōng), and pear peel (Pyri Exocarpium, 梨皮 lí pí), etc. Formulas include Fritillaria and Trichosanthes Powder (贝母栝蒌散 bèi mǔ guā lóu sǎn) and Adenophora/Glehnia and Ophiopogon Decoction (沙参麦冬汤 shā shēn mài dōng tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on LU and KI. Select BL-13 (Lung Transport, 肺俞 fèi shù) and LU-5 (Cubit Marsh, 尺泽 chǐ zé).
