Miasmic malaria
瘴疟 〔瘴瘧〕zhàng nüè
A severe form of malaria attributed to contraction of mountain forest miasmic toxin and traditionally observed to occur in southern China. Miasmic malaria occurs in episodes marked by clouded spirit and delirious raving, and hoarse voice. Distinction is made between cold miasma and heat miasma.
Medicinal therapy: Heat miasma is treated by repelling foulness and eliminating miasma and by clearing heat and safeguarding liquid using
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on GV, PC, SI, and LR. Select GV-14 (Great Hammer, 大椎 dà zhuī), GV-13 (Kiln Path, 陶道 táo dào), PC-5 (Intermediary Courier, 间使 jiān shǐ), SI-3 (Back Ravine, 后溪 hòu xī), ST-40 (Bountiful Bulge, 丰隆 fēng lóng), and CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), needling with drainage, and prick GV-26 (Human Center, 人中 rén zhōng) and LU-11 (Lesser Shang, 少商 shào shāng) to bleed. For heat miasma, add LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí) and TB-1 (Passage Hub, 关冲 guān chōng). For cold miasma, add moxa. See malaria.
