Blood-aspect heat toxin

血分热毒 〔血分熱毒〕 xuè fèn rè dú

1. Heat evil in the blood-aspect, characterized by high fever, clouded spirit, macules and papules, and in some cases blood ejection, spontaneous external bleeding, or bloody stool, and a deep crimson or purple-crimson tongue.

Biomedical correspondence: severe measles; scarlet fever; exanthematous typhus.

Medicinal therapy: Cool and disperse the blood. Use Rhinoceros Horn and Rehmannia Decoction (犀角地黄汤 xī jiǎo dì huáng tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on HT and PC. Select PC-3 (Marsh at the Bend, 曲泽 qū zé), PC-9 (Central Hub, 中冲 zhōng chōng), HT-9 (Lesser Surge, 少冲 shào chōng), LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí), BL-40 (Bend Center, 委中 wěi zhōng), SP-10 (Sea of Blood, 血海 xuè hǎi), and SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo); needle with drainage or prick to bleed. For high fever, add the Ten Diffusing Points (十宣 shí xuān) and GV-14 (Great Hammer, 大椎 dà zhuī). For clouded spirit, add HT-7 (Spirit Gate, 神门 shén mén), Alert Spirit Quartet (四神聪 sì shén cōng), and PC-7 (Great Mound, 大陵 dà líng).

2. Generally denotes what Western medicine describes as recurrent or multiple acute pyogenic infections.
