Lower dispersion

下消 〔下消〕xià xiāo

Also kidney dispersion. A dispersion-thirst pattern marked by passing twice as much fluid as is drunk, unctuous or greasy urine like strangury-turbidity, and black face and parched ears; attributed to debilitation of the kidney’s retentive function.

Medicinal therapy: Supplement the kidney and promote astriction with Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill (六味地黄丸 liù wèi dì huáng wán), Pancreas-Enriching Beverage (滋膵饮 zī cuì yǐn), Left-Restoring [Kidney Yin] Beverage (左归饮 zuǒ guī yǐn), or Major Origin-Supplementing Brew (大补元煎 dà bǔ yuán jiān). For yīn vacuity affecting yáng and debilitated fire failing to form qì, and vacuous qì failing to transform fluids, use Cinnamon Bark and Aconite Eight-Ingredient Pill (桂附八味丸 guì fù bā wèi wán), Right-Restoring [Life Gate] Beverage (右归饮 yòu guī yǐn), Origin-Securing Brew (秘元煎 mì yuán jiān), or Yīn-Securing Brew (固阴煎 gù yīn jiān).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on back transport points, KI, and SP. Select BL-23 (Kidney Transport, 肾俞 shèn shù), KI-3 (Great Ravine, 太溪 tài xī), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), and KI-6 (Shining Sea, 照海 zhào hǎi); needle with supplementation. For yīn vacuity affecting yáng, add GV-4 (Life Gate, 命门 mìng mén), and CV-4 (Pass Head, 关元 guān yuán), using moxa.

See dispersion-thirst.
