Loss of voice in measles

麻疹失音 〔麻疹失音〕má zhěn shī yīn

Loss of voice occurring in measles; usually attributed to heat toxin blocking the clear orifices.

Medicinal therapy: Moisten the lung and engender liquid; clear and disinhibit the throat. Use medicinals such as scrophularia (Scrophulariae Radix, 玄参 xuán shēn), ophiopogon (Ophiopogonis Radix, 麦门冬 mài mén dōng), cutch (Catechu, 孩儿茶 hái ér chá), arctium (Arctii Fructus, 牛蒡子 niú bàng zǐ), cicada molting (Cicadae Periostracum, 蝉蜕 chán tuì), platycodon (Platycodonis Radix, 桔梗 jié gěng), apricot kernel (Armeniacae Semen, 杏仁 xìng rén), sterculia (Sterculiae Lychnophorae Semen, 胖大海 pàng dà hǎi), belamcanda (Belamcandae Rhizoma, 射干 shè gān), and mint (Menthae Herba, 薄荷 bò hé).
