A distension pattern described in The Magic Pivot (灵枢 líng shū, zhàng lùn) as follows: Large intestine distension is rumbling intestines with pain. When cold evil is again contracted in winter, there is food diarrhea containing untransformed food. Large intestine distension may also be observed in distension disease patterns.

Medicinal therapy: Add large intestine channel medicinals such as Dahurian angelica (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, 白芷 bái zhǐ), cimicifuga (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 升麻 shēng má), scutellaria (Scutellariae Radix, 黄芩 huáng qín), and gypsum (Gypsum Fibrosum, 石膏 shí gāo) to formulas for treating distension such as Officinal Magnolia Bark Center-Warming Decoction (厚朴温中汤 hòu pò wēn zhōng tāng) combined with Stomach-Calming Poria Five Decoction (胃苓汤 wèi líng tāng) for cold-damp, and Center-Rectifying Decoction (理中汤 lǐ zhōng tāng) or Officinal Magnolia Bark, Fresh Ginger, Pinellia, Licorice, and Ginseng Decoction (厚朴生姜半夏甘草人参汤 hòu pò shēng jiāng bàn xià gān cǎo rén shēn tāng) for vacuity cold.

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on alarm, back transport, and lower uniting points of LI, and on CV and ST. Select BL-25 (Large Intestine Transport, 大肠俞 dà cháng shù), ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū), ST-37 (Upper Great Hollow, 上巨虚 shàng jù xū), CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), and ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ); needle with even supplementation and drainage and moxa.
