Internal food damage tetany

内伤饮食痉 〔內傷飲食痙〕 nèi shāng yǐn shí jìng

Tetany (arched-back rigidity, clenched jaw, convulsions, etc.) resulting from food stagnation causing damage to the stomach and spleen. Internal food damage tetany occurs after vomiting or diarrhea and is characterized by tetanic reversal (tetany and clouding of consciousness due to abnormal qì flow) and is accompanied by lassitude of the spirit, and pale-white complexion; it is attributable to spleen-stomach yáng vacuity and exhaustion of fluids.

Medicinal therapy: Warm and move spleen yáng using Center-Rectifying Decoction (理中汤 lǐ zhōng tāng) plus clove (Caryophylli Flos, 丁香 dīng xiāng), cinnamon bark (Cinnamomi Cortex, 肉桂 ròu guì), nutmeg (Myristicae Semen, 肉豆蔻 ròu dòu kòu), and chebule (Chebulae Fructus, 诃子 hē zǐ).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on back transport points, SP, ST, and LR. Select BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), BL-21 (Stomach Transport, 胃俞 wèi shù), CV-10 (Lower Stomach Duct, 下脘 xià wǎn), ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), Lǐ Inner Court (里内庭 lǐ nèi tíng), GV-20 (Hundred Convergences, 百会 bǎi huì), GV-16 (Wind Mansion, 风府 fēng fǔ), LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), and GV-8 (Sinew Contraction, 筋缩 jīn suō); needle with supplementation and add moxa.
