Heat constipation

热秘 〔熱秘〕rè bì

Constipation due to heat binding in the large intestine (see heat bind). Heat constipation is accompanied by generalized heat, red facial complexion, aversion to heat and desire for coolness, mouth and tongue sores, dry mouth and parched lips, yellow or reddish urine, yellow tongue fur, and a rapid replete pulse.

Medicinal therapy: Treat by clearing heat and draining-precipitation using Diaphragm-Cooling Powder (凉膈散 liáng gé sǎn), Three Yellows Bitter Orange and White Atractylodes Pill (三黄枳朮丸 sān huáng zhǐ zhú wán), or Costusroot and Areca Pill (木香槟榔丸 mù xiāng bīng láng wán).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on the alarm, back transport, and lower uniting points of LI, and on ST and LI. Select BL-25 (Large Intestine Transport, 大肠俞 dà cháng shù), ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū), ST-37 (Upper Great Hollow, 上巨虚 shàng jù xū), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí), ST-44 (Inner Court, 内庭 nèi tíng), SP-14 (Abdominal Bind, 腹结 fù jié), and KI-6 (Shining Sea, 照海 zhào hǎi); needle with drainage.
