Heat bind

热结 〔熱結〕rè jié

Also yáng bind. Heat gathering and binding in a particular location. When heat binds in the stomach and intestines, there is dry bound stool, and a sunken replete pulse; in severe cases, there may be tidal heat and delirious speech. See yáng brightness (yáng míng) disease. When heat binds in the blood aspect, a blood amassment pattern emerges. Systematized Identification of Warm Diseases (温病条辨 wēn bìng tiáo biàn) states, Heat bind with circumfluence is not a stoppage of qì. There is no need for unripe bitter orange (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, 枳实 zhǐ shí) and officinal magnolia bark (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, 厚朴 hòu pò); simply use mirabilite (Natrii Sulfas, 芒硝 máng xiāo) to enter yīn and resolve the heat bind. According to On Cold Damage (伤寒论 shāng hán lùn), in greater yáng (tài yáng) heat that fails to resolve, heat binds in the bladder, and the patient becomes manic, and passes blood. If blood is passed, the patient will recover.
