Greater yīn (tài yīn) headache

太阴头痛 〔太陰頭痛〕 tài yīn tóu tòng

Headache attributed to phlegm-damp encumbering the spleen and preventing the normal upbearing of clear yáng. Greater yīn (tài yīn) headache is characteristically attended by heavy-headedness, copious phlegm, generalized heaviness, and in some cases abdominal pain and fullnessand is associated with a moderate sunken pulse.

Medicinal therapy: Dry dampness and transform phlegm using Atractylodes Dampness-Eliminating Decoction (苍朮除湿汤 cāng zhú chú shī tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on CV and ST. Select ST-8 (Head Corner, 头维 tóu wéi), Greater yáng (tài yáng) (太阳 tài yáng), CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), and ST-40 (Bountiful Bulge, 丰隆 fēng lóng); needle with drainage. For abdominal pain and fullness, add ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), and PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān).
