Damp-heat rib-side pain

湿热胁痛 〔濕熱脅痛〕shī rè xié tòng

Rib-side pain due to damp-heat causing stagnation of qì in the liver and gallbladder vessels. Damp-heat rib-side pain is a continuous pain associated with distension or that comes in acute episodes, and that may stretch into the region below the heart and the back of the chest. It is associated with nausea, vomiting, oppression in the chest, torpid intake, short voidings of reddish urine, and in some cases heat and cold and yellowing of the eye and skin.

Medicinal therapy: Course the liver and gallbladder; clear heat and transform dampness. Use formulas like Gentian Liver-Draining Decoction (龙胆泻肝汤 lóng dǎn xiè gān tāng) or Virgate Wormwood Decoction (茵陈蒿汤 yīn chén hāo tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on hand and foot lesser yáng (shào yáng) TB/GB, LR and SP. Select LR-14 (Cycle Gate, 期门 qī mén), GB-24 (Sun and Moon, 日月 rì yuè), TB-6 (Branch Ditch, 支沟 zhī gōu), GB-34 (Yáng Mound Spring, 阳陵泉 yáng líng quán), SP-9 (Yīn Mound Spring, 阴陵泉 yīn líng quán), and needle with drainage.
