Point name meaning:

SP-1 is the first point on the earth channel. Earth engenders metal and thus the beginnings of metal exist subtly in earth and doubly so at the beginning of the earth channel. Because white is the color associated with metal, this point is called Hidden White.

Additionally, the character (yǐn), which is similar to but not to be confused with (yīn), the opposite of (yáng), may point to the fact that the spleen belongs to the tai yīn channel, which is referred to as the yīn within yin. Because means shadow, cloudy, dark, etc., the yīn within the yīn is doubly obscure; thus 隐. The character (bái), white, can be taken as a reference to the location of the point on the border of the white flesh of the toe. See acupoint names: origins, meanings, and translations.
