LR-2 Moving Between
行间 〔行間〕 xíng jiān
Alternate names: 足厥阴所流 zú jué yīn suǒ liú,
Channel: LR, foot reverting yīn (jué yīn) liver channel
Modern location: An acupoint located on the dorsal aspect of the foot, proximal to the margin of the web between the first and second toes, level with the metatarsophalangeal (mtp) articulation of the first toe.
Classical location: On the web of the great toe, in the depression where the pulsating vessel may be sensed through palpation. From
Local anatomy: The dorsal venous network of the foot and the first dorsal digital artery and vein. The site where the dorsal digital nerves split from the deep peroneal nerve.
Action: Drains liver fire; cools blood heat; clears the lower burner; extinguishes wind; courses the vessels and quickens the network vessels; clears heat and drains fire; rectifies qì.
Modern indications: Headache; dizzy vision;
Classical indications: White turbidity; dispersion-thirst; fullness beneath the rib-side;
Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.3‒0.6 cùn perpendicular insertion, or oblique insertion angled slightly towards the heel. Moxa: 3 cones; pole 5‒15 min.
Needle sensation: Localized distension.
Point groups: Spring (yíng) (fire) point.
Point name meaning:
The channel arrives at this point after passing between the two toes; hence it is called Moving Between. Another interpretation of this name claims that the name contains the character 行 (xíng), meaning to move,
walk,
or act
because this point is pivotal for walking and has the function of moving qì and resolving stagnation. 间 (jiān), meaning between, refers to the point’s location between the toes. See
