Properties: Salty; cold; nontoxic*.

Actions and indications: Fortifies the spleen and opens the stomach; clears heat and resolves toxin. Treats poor appetite; summerheat-heat. Used in cooking, it can resolve the toxin of meat and vegetables. There is also a hot form made with chili paste (which should be avoided by patients with yīn vacuity with effulgent fire, cough, and eye diseases).
