Properties: Salty; balanced. (Also sweet according to some sources).

Indications:
- Downbears qì and disperses phlegm: Repletion patterns of stubborn phlegm with cough and panting.
- Calms the liver and settles fright: Fright wind; epilepsy; mania and withdrawal.
Dosage & Method:
Oral: 6–10g in decoctions. Méng shí can be used in crude or calcined forms. It is usually supplied already calcined. It should be crushed and predecocted in cloth. Méng shí may also be used in powders and pills, at a dose of 1.5–3g.
Warning:
Méng shí is heavy and downbearing. It is contraindicated in spleen-stomach vacuity, chronic child fright wind, and in pregnancy.
