Use: Medicinal

Properties: Sweet, sour; cold.

Channel entry: Liver and kidney channels.

Actions and indications:

• Enriches yīn and boosts the kidney: Liver-kidney yīn vacuity.
• Cools the blood and stanches bleeding: Blood heat manifesting with vomiting of blood (blood ejection), nosebleed, bloody urine or stool, or flooding and spotting.
• Additional uses: Dried mò hàn lián may be decocted to treat dysentery.

Dosage and method: Oral: 10‒15g in decoctions. Double the dose when using the fresh herb. Also used externally.

Warnings: Unsuitable for spleen-stomach vacuity cold with diarrhea.

Quality: Large, thick, yet supple stems and absence of earth are signs of good quality.

Production area: Guǎngdōng, Húběi, Jiāngsū.
