Category: Water-disinhibiting dampness-percolating agents / Urine-disinhibiting strangury-freeing agents

Properties: Sweet; cold; nontoxic*.

Channel entry: Large intestine and triple burner (root and leaves) channels.*

Actions and indications: Disinhibits water, clears heat, brightens the eyes, dispels phlegm. Treats urinary stoppage; strangury-turbidity (lìn zhuó); vaginal discharge; bloody urine; jaundice; water swelling; heat dysentery; diarrhea; nosebleed; painful red swollen eyes; throat impediment (hóu bì); throat moth; cough; ulceration of the skin.

Dosage and method: Oral: (10–20g) or extract juice. Topical: Apply crushed.

Quality: Dry plump black seeds without shells are the best.

Production area: Jiāngxī, Hénán, Guǎngxī.
