Water-Transforming Seed-Planting Decoction
化水种子汤 〔化水種子湯〕 huà shuǐ zhòng zǐ tāng

Ingredients
- Bā jǐ tiān (巴戟天 Morindae Officinalis Radix, morinda [root]) (steeped in brine) 10g
- Fú líng (茯苓 Poria , poria) 10g
- Dǎng shēn (党参 Codonopsis Radix, codonopsis [root]) 10g
- Tù sī zǐ (菟丝子 Cuscutae Semen, cuscuta [seed]) (stir-fried with wine) 10g
- Qiàn shí (芡实 Euryales Semen, euryale [seed]) (stir-fried) 10g
- Bái zhú (白朮 Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, white atractylodes [root]) (stir-fried with earth) 12g
- Chē qián zǐ (车前子 Plantaginis Semen, plantago seed) (stir-fried with wine) 6g
- Ròu guì (肉桂 Cinnamomi Cortex, cinnamon bark) 2g
Actions: Warms the kidney and fortifies the spleen; promotes
Indications: Infertility due to spleen-kidney yáng vacuity and dampness encumbering the uterus with signs such as aching lumbus, generalized heaviness, aversion to cold, and cold limbs, fatigue and lack of strength, bland taste in the mouth and torpid intake, short voidings of scant urine, swelling of the lower limbs, and
Method: Decoct with water.
Rationale: Bā jǐ tiān and Ròu guì are warm and supplement kidney yáng; they invigorate the root of earlier heaven,
help the transformative action of bladder qì, and disinhibit water, thereby eliminating the damp-heat in the uterus. Bái zhú, Fú líng, and Dǎng shēn fortify the spleen and boos qì, thereby supplementing the root of later heaven.
By improving splenic movement and transformation, they therefore eliminate the source of the dampness. Tù sī zǐ and Qiàn shí supplement the kidney and can astringe essence (improving the kidney's essence-storing function). Chē qián zǐ helps the Ròu guì to promote qì transformation and disinhibit urine.
