Ingredients
- Sān qī (三七 Notoginseng Radix, notoginseng [root]) (or Dǎng shēn (党参 Codonopsis Radix, codonopsis [root])) 30g
- Fú líng (茯苓 Poria , poria) 30g
- Chāng pú (菖蒲 Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, acorus [root]) (stir-fried) 20g
- Yuǎn zhì (远志 Polygalae Radix, polygala [root]) 20g.
- Zhū shā gēn (朱砂根 Ardisiae Crenatae Radix, coral ardisia [root]) for coating
Actions: Boosts qì and nourishes the heart; opens the orifices and quiets the spirit.
Indications: Insufficiency of heart qì with fright palpitation, forgetfulness, and moodiness (sorrow, grief, joy, anger).
Rationale: Rén shēn is used to supplement qì and nourish the heart, Fú líng to nourish the hear and quiet the spirit, and Yuǎn zhì and Shí chāng pú to transform phlegm, open the orifices, and quiet the heart spirit.
Notes: In A Thousand Gold Pieces Prescriptions
(qiān jīn fāng), this formula was known Dìng zhì xiǎo wán (定志小丸 Small Mind-Stabilizing Pill), the word small being dropped in the Sòng dynasty.
