Ingredients
- Zǐ jīng pí (紫荆皮 Cercis Cortex, cercis bark)
- Tiān nán xīng (天南星 Arisaematis Rhizoma, arisaema [root])
- Bàn xià (半夏 Pinelliae Rhizoma, pinellia [rhizome])
- Huáng bǎi (黄柏 Phellodendri Cortex, phellodendron [bark])
- Cǎo wū (草乌 Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix, wild aconite [root])
- Chuān wū (川乌 Aconiti Radix, aconite main root)
- Dāng guī (当归 Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Chinese angelica)
- Chuān xiōng (川芎 Chuanxiong Rhizoma, chuanxiong [rhizome])
- Wū yào (乌药 Linderae Radix, lindera [root])
- Bǔ gǔ zhī (补骨脂 Psoraleae Fructus, psoralea [fruit])
- Bái zhǐ (白芷 Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, Dahurian angelica)
- Liú jì nú (刘寄奴 Artemisiae Anomalae Herba, anomalous artemisia)

Actions: Quickens the blood and dispels stasis; disperses swelling and relieves pain.

Rationale: Cercis bark, the sovereign agent in this formula, quickens the blood and disperses swelling. Huáng bǎi clears heat and dries dampness. Sāng bái pí disperses swelling and binds. Wū yào relieves depression and pain. Tiān nán xīng, Bàn xià, Dāng guī, Chuān xiōng, Niú xī, anomalous artemisia, Chuān wū, Cǎo wū, and Bái zhǐ are all warming and dispersing agents that help the blood-quickening action of the other agents and help to relieve pain. Bǔ gǔ zhī supplements the kidney and assists yáng, serving to support right qì to dispel the evil.
