Use: Medicinal

Properties: Bitter; balanced.

Channel entry: Liver and spleen channels.

Actions and indications: Quickens the blood and frees menstruation; disperses swelling and resolves toxin. Treats wind-cold-damp impediment (fēng hán shī bì); amenorrhea; blood qì pain; throat impediment (hóu bì); strangury; swollen welling-abscesses (yōng zhǒng); scab (jiè) and lichen (xiǎn); injury from knocks and falls; snake and insect bites.

Quality: Long pieces of thick hard bark are best.

Production area: Cercis chinensis: Sìchuān, Hénán, Húnán, Húběi, Jiāngxī. Cercis yunnanensis grows in Yúnnán.
