Pig's Trotter Gruel
猪蹄粥 〔豬蹄粥〕 zhū tí zhōu

Ingredients
- Zhū tí (猪蹄 Suis Pes, pig’s trotter) 1–2 pieces
- Tōng cǎo (通草 Tetrapanacis Medulla, rice-paper plant pith) 3–5g
- Lòu lú (漏芦 Rhapontici Radix, rhaponticum) 10–15g
- Jīng mǐ (粳米 Oryzae Semen, non-glutinous rice) 30g
- Cōng bái (葱白 Allii Fistulosi Bulbus, scallion white) 2 stalks

Rationale: Pig's trotters produce a thick unctuous soup when boiled for a long time, and they have always been considered very nourishing by the Chinese. They are said to strengthen the lumbus and legs, replenish kidney essence, and moisturize the skin. They have been used to promote lactation for centuries.
