Ingredients:

• Yín huā (银花 Lonicerae Flos, lonicera [flower]) 15g
• Lián qiào (连翘 Forsythiae Fructus, forsythia [fruit]) 15g
• Jié gěng (桔梗 Platycodonis Radix, platycodon [root]) 9g
• Xìng rén (杏仁 Armeniacae Semen, apricot kernel) 6–12g
• 红藤 30g
• Yú xīng cǎo (鱼腥草 Houttuyniae Herba, houttuynia) 30g
• Dōng guā rén (冬瓜仁 Benincasae Semen, winter melon seed) 9g
• Táo rén (桃仁 Persicae Semen, peach kernel) 9g
• Xiān lú gēn (鲜芦根 Phragmitis Rhizoma Recens, fresh phragmites [root]) (with nodes removed) 2 feet

Action: Clears heat, resolves toxin and dispels phlegm.

Indication: Suppurating lung welling-abscess (yōng). If there is high fever and fishy smelling phlegm, add mulberry root bark (sāng bái pí) 15 gr and lycium root bark (dì gǔ pí) 1g.

Method: Decoct with water.

Variations:

• Heart vexation and expectoration of pus and blood: Add Bǎi hé (百合 Lilii Bulbus, lily bulb) 30 gr, Mài dōng (麦冬 Ophiopogonis Radix, ophiopogon [root]) 9 gr, and ē jiāo (阿胶 Asini Corii Colla, ass hide glue) 9g.
• Chest pain: Add Guā lóu (瓜蒌 Trichosanthis Fructus, trichosanthes [fruit]) 9 gr, zhike 4.5 gr, and Dān shēn (丹参 Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix, salvia [root]) 12g.
