Category: External medicine formulas
Method: Decoct with water.
Rationale: Lú gēn, by its action of clearing and draining lung heat, is an important agent for the treatment of pulmonary welling-abscess (fèi yōng). Dōng guā zǐ dispels phlegm and expels pus. Yì yǐ rén clears heat and disinhibits dampness. Táo rén dispels stasis and expels pulse. The three latter agents free the stool, causing phlegm and static blood to leave the body in the stool. The formula can disperse early-stage pulmonary welling-abscess (fèi yōng) and can expel pus and static blood where these have formed.
