Properties: Bitter; balanced.

Channel entry: Large intestine and liver channels.

Actions and indications:

Dosage and method: Oral: 15–30g in decoctions. It can also be powdered or steeped in wine and may be applied topically as well.

Warnings: Should not be taken liberally in pregnancy.

Notes: This item is often sold as jī xuè téng (Spatholobi Caulis). However, the two differ in their properties and they are easily distinguished from one another despite widespread mislabeling in the marketplace.

Quality: Thick stems are the best.

Production area: Hénán, ānhuī, Jiāngsū, Zhèjiāng, Jiāngxī, Fújiàn, Guǎngdōng, Guǎngxī, Húnán, Húběi, Sìchuān, Guìzhōu, and Shǎnxī (Shaanxi).
