Topical Anesthetic Formula
外敷麻醉药方 〔外敷麻醉藥方〕 wài fū má zuì yào fāng

Ingredients
- Chán sū (蟾酥 Bufonis Venenum, toad venom)
- Chuān wū (川乌 Aconiti Radix, aconite main root)
- Cǎo wū (草乌 Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix, wild aconite [root])
- Shēng tiān nán xīng (生天南星 Arisaematis Rhizoma Crudum, raw arisaema [root])
- Shēng bàn xià (生半夏 Pinelliae Rhizoma Crudum, raw pinellia [rhizome])
- Hú jiāo (胡椒 Piperis Fructus, pepper)
Indications: Used as an anesthetic to facilitate surgery. Variants of this formula are still used today in periodontal surgery.
Method: Grind to a powder and blend with spirit (e.g., sorghum liquor), and apply topically.
