Topical Bone-Joining Powder
外敷接骨散 〔外敷接骨散〕 wài fū jiē gǔ sǎn

Ingredients
- Gǔ suì bǔ (骨碎补 Drynariae Rhizoma, drynaria [root])
- Xuè jié (血竭 Daemonoropis Resina, dragon’s blood)
- Péng shā (硼砂 Borax , borax)
- Dāng guī (当归 Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Chinese angelica)
- Rǔ xiāng (乳香 Olibanum , frankincense)
- Mò yào (没药 Myrrha , myrrh)
- Xù duàn (续断 Dipsaci Radix, dipsacus [root])
- Zì rán tóng (自然铜 Pyritum , pyrite)
- Dà huáng (大黄 Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, rhubarb)
- Zhè chóng (蟅虫 Eupolyphaga seu Steleophaga , ground beetle)
Actions: Quickens the blood and joins bones.
Indications: Bone fractures (fractured or shattered bones); sprains.
Method: Ingredients in equal proportions. Grind to a powder, and blend with malt sugar, honey, or petroleum jelly, and apply to the affected area.
Rationale: Dà huáng, Dāng guī, and Xuè jié quicken the blood and dispel stasis. Zì rán tóng, Xù duàn, Gǔ suì bǔ, and Zhè chóng quicken the blood and join bone. Rǔ xiāng and Mò yào quicken the blood and relieve pain. Note that xū duàn literally means join breaks
and gǔ suì bǔ means shattered bone supplement.
