Phlegm-Rheum Pill
痰饮丸 〔痰飲丸〕tán yǐn wán

Ingredients:
附片 9g- Cāng zhú (苍朮 Atractylodis Rhizoma, atractylodes [rhizome]) 9g
- Gān jiāng (干姜 Zingiberis Rhizoma, dried ginger) 9g
- Ròu guì (肉桂 Cinnamomi Cortex, cinnamon bark) 1g
- Bái zhú (白朮 Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, white atractylodes [root]) 9g
- Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) 9g
- Lái fú zǐ (莱菔子 Raphani Semen, radish seed) 9g
- Bái jiè zǐ (白芥子 Sinapis Albae Semen, white mustard [seed]) 9g
- Sū zǐ (苏子 Perillae Fructus, perilla fruit) 9g
Action: Warms the lung and transforms rheum; relieves cough and calms panting.
Indication: Chronic bronchitis in the elderly, forming vacuity cold or phlegm damp patterns attributable to spleen-kidney yáng vacuity. Signs: cold limbs and aversion to cold, cold aching back and lumbus, and cough with copious phlegm, in severe cases inducing enuresis. Tongue fur: White. Pulse: Sunken and slow.

Rationale: Fù zǐ, Ròu guì, and Gān jiāng warm and supplement the spleen and kidney, and assist yáng to promote qì transformation. The two Cāng zhú fortify the spleen and dry dampness. Bái jiè zǐ, perilla, and Lái fú zǐ precipitate qì and calm panting.

vacuity panting : Add Rén shēn (人参 Ginseng Radix, ginseng) and Gé jiè (蛤蚧 Gecko , gecko). - Pronounced
phlegm-rheum : Add Chén pí (陈皮 Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, tangerine peel) and Bàn xià (半夏 Pinelliae Rhizoma, pinellia [rhizome]). - Pronounced
cough : Add Zǐ wǎn (紫菀 Asteris Radix, aster [root]) and Kuǎn dōng huā (款冬花 Farfarae Flos, coltsfoot).
