Action: Outthrusts evils and frees the interior; disinhibits water and disperses swelling.
Indication: Generalized water swelling with panting, thirst, and inhibited urination and defecation.
Category:
Method: Decoct with water.
Rationale: The name of the formula reflects its function. Qiāng huó and Qín jiāo diffuse and disperse water qì in the exterior, allow it to pass out through sweating. This is the coursing
action of the formula. Shāng lù and Bīng láng free both urine and stool, thus piercing
a way through the blockage to allow the water to escape downward. Fú líng pí, Zé xiè, Shēng jiāng pí, Dà fù pí, Mù tōng, Jiāo mù, and Chì xiǎo dòu disinhibit the waterways. Thus, the formula achieves it end by three actions—sweating, precipitation, and disinhibition.
