Ingredients:

• Huáng lián (黄连 Coptidis Rhizoma, coptis [root])
• Bái sháo (白芍 Paeoniae Radix Alba, white peony [root])
• Zhī zǐ (栀子 Gardeniae Fructus, gardenia [fruit])
• Zhǐ ké (qiào) (枳壳 Aurantii Fructus, bitter orange)
• Hòu pò (厚朴 Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, officinal magnolia bark)
• Xiāng fù (香附 Cyperi Rhizoma, cyperus [rhizome])
• Chuān xiōng (川芎 Chuanxiong Rhizoma, chuanxiong [rhizome])
• Mù xiāng (木香 Aucklandiae Radix, costusroot)
• Shā rén (砂仁 Amomi Fructus, amomum [fruit])
• 茴香
• Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root])

Action: Clears heat and drains fire; moves qì and transforms dampness.

Indication: Damp-heat brewing in the spleen and stomach causing intermittent abdominal pain exacerbated by pressure with possible vomiting and retching, and with heat effusion with aversion to cold, or with yellowing of the body and eyes (jaundice). Such patterns are generally characterized by oppression in the chest, torpid intake, bitter taste in the mouth and slimy sensation in the mouth, constipation or diarrhea. Tongue: Bears a slimy yellow tongue fur. Pulse: Soggy and rapid or surging and rapid.
