Facial Pain No. 4 Formula
面痛四号方 〔面痛四號方〕miàn tòng sì hào fāng

Ingredients:
- Huáng qí (黄芪 Astragali Radix, astragalus [root])
- Chuān xiōng (川芎 Chuanxiong Rhizoma, chuanxiong [rhizome])
- Chì sháo (赤芍 Paeoniae Radix Rubra, red peony [root])
- Dāng guī (当归 Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Chinese angelica)
- Tiān má (天麻 Gastrodiae Rhizoma, gastrodia [root])
- Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root])
- Dān shēn (丹参 Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix, salvia [root])
- Jī xuè téng (鸡血藤 Spatholobi Caulis, spatholobus [stem])
Action:
Indication: Facial pain due to qì vacuity and blood stasis, which develops when facial pain due to other causes has persisted for a long time. The pain continues for long periods. The pain is like the piercing of an awl and does not move. The face is dull and stagnant. In severe cases, there is incrusted skin, and the pain is accompanied by convulsions.
