Coursing the exterior

疏表 〔疏表〕shū biǎo

A method of treatment used to free the exterior of evil without necessarily making the patient sweat.

Medicinal therapy: Medicinals used to course the exterior are mild exterior-resolving medicinals such as warm acrid perilla leaf (Perillae Folium, 紫苏叶 zǐ sū yè) and saposhnikovia (Saposhnikoviae Radix, 防风 fáng fēng), and cool acrid mint (Menthae Herba, 薄荷 bò hé), mulberry leaf (Mori Folium, 桑叶 sāng yè), and pueraria (Puerariae Radix, 葛根 gé gēn).
