Wind-heat gān of the teeth and gums

风热牙疳 〔風熱牙疳〕fēng rè yá gān

Gān of the teeth and gums characterized in the initial stages by sore red swollen gums, heat effusion, or alternating heat and cold, and in more advanced stages by ulceration and bleeding, and in some cases constipation, and retching and vomiting. Wind-heat gān of the teeth and gums is attributed to evil heat surging upward to lodge in the teeth and gums, occurring when wind-heat contends with heat brewing in the yáng brightness (yáng míng).

Medicinal therapy: Course wind and clear heat; drain fire and resolve toxin. Use Coptis Toxin-Resolving Decoction (黄连解毒汤 huáng lián jiě dú tāng), Stomach-Clearing Powder (清胃散 qīng wèi sǎn), or Jade Lady Brew (玉女煎 yù nǚ jiān), which can be decocted with lonicera (Lonicerae Flos, 金银花 jīn yín huā), licorice (Glycyrrhizae Radix, 甘草 gān cǎo), and mint (Menthae Herba, 薄荷 bò hé) and used as a mouthwash.

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on ST, LI, and GV. Select LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), ST-44 (Inner Court, 内庭 nèi tíng), TB-5 (Outer Pass, 外关 wài guān), GB-20 (Wind Pool, 风池 fēng chí), and GV-14 (Great Hammer, 大椎 dà zhuī). Needle with drainage.
