Wind constipation

风秘 〔風秘〕fēng bì

Dry bound stool and difficult defecation arising when wind contends with the lung and is transmitted to the large intestine, where it causes or exacerbates dryness of the fluids. Wind constipation is observed most commonly among the weak and elderly, and those predisposed to wind disease.

Medicinal therapy: Course wind, harmonize the blood, and moisten the intestines. Use formulas such as Hemp Seed Pill (麻仁丸 má rén wán) or Intestine-Moistening Pill (润肠丸 rùn cháng wán).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on alarm, back transport, and lower uniting points of LI, and on LU. Select BL-25 (Large Intestine Transport, 大肠俞 dà cháng shù), ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū), ST-37 (Upper Great Hollow, 上巨虚 shàng jù xū), BL-12 (Wind Gate, 风门 fēng mén), GB-20 (Wind Pool, 风池 fēng chí), LU-9 (Great Abyss, 太渊 tài yuān), and LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ); needle with drainage.
