Trembling tongue
舌颤 〔舌顫〕shé chàn
A tongue that trembles as it moves. A trembling tongue is observed in ascendant hyperactivity of liver yáng, internal wind stirred by exuberant heat, or qì vacuity. In the first two cases, the tongue is red or crimson, whereas in qì vacuity the tongue is pale.
Biomedical correspondence: According to modern clinical observation, a trembling tongue is seen in high fever, hyperthyroidism, hypertension, and certain nervous diseases.
