Sweating head

头汗 〔頭汗〕tóu hàn

Profuse sweating confined to the head. Sweating head is attributable to depleted water and effulgent fire, stomach heat seething upward, and dampness contending with yáng.

Medicinal therapy: In depleted water and effulgent fire, it is treated by enriching yīn and downbearing fire, using formulas such as Chinese Angelica Six Yellows Decoction (当归六黄汤 dāng guī liù huáng tāng). In stomach fire seething upward, it is treated by clearing and discharging stomach heat with Lophatherum and Gypsum Decoction (竹叶石膏汤 zhú yè shí gāo tāng). When due to the damp evil contending with yáng, it is treated by transforming dampness and warming the center, using Dampness-Overcoming Decoction (胜湿汤 shèng shī tāng). Sweating from the head may also occur in block and repulsion, water chest bind, lesser yáng (shào yáng) disease, panting in the elderly, and yáng desertion in severe disease.
