Sweating hands and feet

手足汗 〔手足汗〕shǒu zú hàn

Clammy sweaty hands and feet. Sweating of the hands and feet is usually the manifestation of steaming of spleen-stomach dampness out to the extremities. If the hearts of the soles and palms are hot, it is attributable to yīn depletion and blood vacuity. If the extremities are cold, it is ascribed to insufficiency of center yáng.

Medicinal therapy: Yīn-blood vacuity is treated with Four Agents Decoction (四物汤 sì wù tāng) or Ophiopogon and Rehmannia Pill (麦味地黄丸 mài wèi dì huáng wán), whereas insufficiency of center yáng is treated with Center-Rectifying Decoction (理中汤 lǐ zhōng tāng) plus mume (Mume Fructus, 乌梅 wū méi). If the condition persists, use Perfect Major Supplementation Decoction (十全大补汤 shí quán dà bǔ tāng) plus schisandra (Schisandrae Fructus, 五味子 wǔ wèi zǐ). Topical: For sweating hands, decoct astragalus (Astragali Radix, 黄芪 huáng qí) 30 g, pueraria (Puerariae Radix, 葛根 gé gēn) 30 g, schizonepeta (Schizonepetae Herba, 荆芥 jīng jiè) 9 g, and saposhnikovia (Saposhnikoviae Radix, 防风 fáng fēng) 9g as a warm wash. For sweating feet, decoct alum (Alumen, 白矾 bái fán) 15g and pueraria (Puerariae Radix, 葛根 gé gēn) 15g as a foot bath.
